This is the glorious Lake Bled, just over the Austrian border, from the Salzburg/Innsbruk/Klagenfurt/Villach areas.
We will have the option to skip a day or so from our Munich leg and visit this beautiful area and hopefully be able to visit the monastery/church, where weddings are the"in thing" now... in the middle of this very lake, in Bled, in Slovenia. This will be at your own expense, but is a very worthwhile late addition to this whole trip... |
"The lake Bled itself is exquisite, the boat glided effortlessly across the water and appeared as if it was sliding on glass. No current disturbed the mineral green water which was made even more errily beautiful as raindrops erupted the waters surface accompanied by the softest of patters. Once on the island itself I climbed the ancient steps to the Church of St Mary determine to ring the Wishing Bell (good title for a book). And did I give that Bell a yank! It's not every day you get to ring the Church Bells (on an Island in Slovenia no less). Legend has it that the original Bell was made the widow Polyxena von Kreigh in memory of her murdered Husband. Unfortunately the Bell was lost to the waters of Lake Bled as on it's journey to the island, a tempest arose sinking the boat containing the Bell. Lovely Polyxena (I'm reading it as Pollyanna) so distraught by this misfortune took herself to a Nunnery where she remained until her death. On hearing of this the Church made a new bell and it was brought to the island in 1534. Apparently all that ring the Bell will have their wishes granted as way of thanks to Polyxena" Found this review online somewhere...awesome, read and enjoy it..

2 x evening meals and 2 lunches at ski and Spa resorts on our day trips to Bad Gastein and Semmering. These are free days where you may decide to go skiing, bathing or spend the day at the spa!
Own Laptop (and dongle) for Blogging Lessons...

Suggested extra cash. The European cities we will explore are great fashion trend setters and all are one season ahead of the Southern Hemisphere...(all down under countries) so bring extra cash to stock up on next winter’s latest fashions!

Passport requirements. 6 months remaining from entrance back into Australia! (i.e. 7 plus months still remaining on your Passport)
Visa...see your travel agent. Australia is party to reciprocal travel zones of the Schrengen treaty & normal residents/citizens are not required to obtain separate or extra visas, as automatic visas are generally granted upon arrival and usually no extra formal paperwork is required. But please check with your travel agent.
Health... No compulsory inoculations usually needed, but check with travel agent.
Areas covered in Workshop... European countries only, but you may wish to extend your trip to visit UK or other countries whilst over there if desired at own expense. Check with travel agent
Currencies. Euro, Czeck Crown, Hungarian Kroner, & Slovacian ?
No need for travelers cheques etc. Visa debit cards are great, just use as you would at home, mostly.
In Vienna, Salzburg, Semmering, Bad Gastein and in Lower Bavaria and Munich, the Euro is used.
Other countries we’ll be learning of and visiting, have their own currencies which you will be informed about as time draws near. No need to obtain those old cumbersome travelers cheques etc
Local currencies are easily gained from local ATM machines, for which your bank can charge a $5 fee and obviously a small currency conversion fee... Absolutely no hassles and also great safety insurance!
An Aussie backpacker told me they used their cards recently and said they paid just under $50 all up for about 7-10 withdrawals and subsequent conversion fees and seemingly nothing for card/efptos use over a 9 week period, as they stayed within their bank’s monthly limit and were very happy about that for the peace of mind that cards provided them on their trip.

European Self Serve Breakfast Buffet; Available from 7-8.30am, unless otherwise stated.
Traditional Viennese rolls, croissants, cold meats, soft cheeses, meat pastes, boiled eggs, Juice, tea, freshly brewed plunger coffee, hot chocolate, Yogurt, muesli, fresh fruit, European berry jam, butter and a variety of amazing breads.
Lunches. Freshly packed sandwiches made from local famous and delicious European breads, rolls, salad, meats, cheese, with piece of fruit to take out. This take away lunch pack is supplied daily if desired at no cost to you, although it’s recommended you try the local lunch time goodies in each area instead (own expense).
Afternoon/Morning Teas/Suppers; Ad-hoc...But, tea/coffee/ hot chocolate, fruit bowl and Viennese or European wafers available 24/7 at our digs!
Pre-Dinner Drinks...6-7.30pm ...Various European named Martini or Cocktails. Don't forget the fun time Freeeeee Martini Course too...
Dinners. 3 courses. 6.30-7.30-9pm...Home Made traditional area Soups. Main meal of local traditional fare followed by decadent yummy desserts or cheese platter, served with a glass or two of local wine or a bottle of beer each (half litre bottles too, mind you!)
Buffet nights...Self Serve...Soups, a range of traditional and local buffet fare followed by the obligatory rich European desserts.
Post Dinner; 9pm...Coffee and a small Port.
